FEATURE FILMS FROM GEORGIA (CAUCASUS)


"Wedding" - 35 mm. 16 min. Written and directed by -M. Kobakhidze. Camera -N. Sukhishvili. A gently ironic film about a young pharmacist and his beautiful dream of marrying the girl he loves. But, alas, the wedding-bells do not ring for him.
"The Wine Jar" - 35 mm. 26 min. Written by- R. Gabriadze. Directed by -I. Kvirikadze. Camera -E. Akhvlediani A potter finds himself the prisoner of an enormous wine jar due to his miscalculation. The comic events and the local humor are easily recognized in Georgia, though the script is based on Pirandello's short story.
"Record" - 35 mm. 52 min. Written by -A. Chichinadze, G. Pataraia. Directed by -G. Pataraia. Camera -I. Onoprishvili A cheerful comedy about a young man trying to repeat his own record at throwing stones which he set while irate.
"Kuchkhi Bedineri" - 35 mm. 26 min. Written and directed by -G. Pataraia. Camera -I. Onoprishvili According to popular beliefs the tradition in many villages is to invite the luckiest man as the first comer on the New Year's day. The film tells about the comic situations in which a family finds itself after the tradition is broken by a lovely bloodhound Brolia.
"The Serenade" - 35 mm. Written by -R Gabriadze, K. Khotivari. Directed by -K. Khotivari. Camera -I. Kikabidze. One of the first short comedies made by the Georgian filmmakers. It is a skillful adaptation of a well-known story by M. Zoschenko about the ever thrilling feeling we call love.
"Lazare" - 35 mm. 1 hr. Written by -L. Malazonia. Directed by -R. Khotivari. Camera -I. Onoprishvili The film tells about the adventures and perils of an orphan country boy. The action takes place in Georgia at the end of the XIX century.
"The Hedgehog" - 35 mm. 26 min. Written by - Directed by -A. Ninua. Camera- P. Shnaider The feature TV-film about the beautiful period in young people's lives when the relationship between girls and boys cease to be purely childish and when new, inexperienced and romantic feelings arise.
"The Know-How" - 35 mm. 16 min. Written by -L. Chelidze. Directed by -D. Batiashvili. Camera -I. Kreps A young man tried to imitate a foreign skier, but his jump with homemade skis turned unsuccessful. Several broken ribs and bruises cannot mar the happy moment of keeping fear under control and being stronger in the end.
"The Hole" - 35 mm. 26 min. Written by -D. Ivanov-Chikovani. Directed by -G. Chiradze. Camera -D. Kurashvili A man digging a hole in his backyard attracts a lot of interest. Though he tries to explain, nobody wants to believe there is no secret or other reason behind this seemingly innocent activity.
"The Shepherds of Tusheti" - 35 mm. 16 min. Written by -V. Sulakauri, A. Chichinadze. D. Ivanov, I. Chkhaidze. Directed by -I. Chkhaidze. Camera -I. Onoprishvili This film tells about the shepherds from Tusheti, their hazardous lives and dignified work.
"A Light-Headed Man" - 35 mm. 1 hr. 10 min. Written by -V. Akhvlediani, D. Batiashvili. Directed by -D. Batiashvili. Camera -I. Kreps, T. Bishikaev The main character is a lonely young man, a drifter. Despite various mishaps he finds the courage and personal strength to challenge the fate and finds his peace of mind in the end.
"The Stain" - 35 mm. feature, 1 hr. Written and directed -A. Tsabadze. Camera -N. Namgaladze.The feature film is about ordinary young men; their everyday problems and somewhat empty lives. The film does not aim at polishing the severe and ruthless reality.
