Mt. Ushba is one of the most prominent peaks of the Caucasus (although it does not rank in the 10 highest peaks of the range), located in the Svaneti region of Georgia. At an elevation of 4,710 meters (15,453 feet), Ushba is known as the "Matterhorn of the Caucasus" for its picturusque, spire-shaped summit, similar to that of the Matterhorn in the Alps. Ushba is considered by many climbers as the most difficult mountain to climb in the Caucasus which is evidenced by the high number of fatalities that occur each year during the climb attempts and the fact that Ushba has steep slopes and experiences unstable weather conditions throughout the year.
